What I Wore Wednesday #2

Have you met Lindsey from the Pleated Poppy? You probably have, she's kind of famous! She's a mama to three cute kiddos (evidenced by photo on blog) and she hosts this link up party for "What I Wore Wednesday". She explains at her blog why and the same reasons apply here. To hold me accountable from wearing sweats!

It is slowly working here, two weeks ago I participated, then spent a week in lounge wear. This week I *managed* 3 outfits. Oh, and a sneak peak at a never before released pregnancy photo!

If you haven't been to the Pleated Poppy check it to see more outfits! If your visiting from there thanks for stopping by!!

Last Thursday, I started off strong in anticipation of WIWW...

Easter Sunday

Little C and I showing off our style
dress and shrug: TJ Maxx clearance
shoes: Athena Alexander

capris: Kohls (I wear capris a lot)
fun shirt: Ross- isn't that print a little cool!

Okay, I promised an old pregnancy photo exclusive. I have a confession I am showing this picture to go ahead and admit the truth. Summer is approaching and it's getting hot. What does this mean? Well, I totally plan on breaking out my maternity shorts and I'm not pregnant. Who wouldn't want to wear them all the time? Really? They are comfy and not to short
(and sadly mine actually fit still)

So here is a picture from one year ago when I was about 7 months pregnant. I love this photo, Mr. Hunnel snapped it when I was cooking one night back in our condo world days.

you can expect to be seeing those shorts in future WWIWs :-)

If you've made it this far, leave a comment so I can visit you and become efriends!

Cherished Friendship

Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.
-C.S. Lewis

I have this friend, she has been a friend for a very long time.
I treasure our friendship and over the year have realized that we can grow as different people without growing apart. Our lives have gone down different directions and sometimes they have interwoven.

Teacher Kindness is the one of the best friends anyone could ask for and be lucky to have. I have the honor of being a bridesmaid in her upcoming June wedding! Her bridal shower is the weekend and I am so looking forward to it. I cannot wait to help with this shower because it will be honoring her.

She is someone who deserves a day that is all about her. The maid of honor is amazing, creative, and crafty which means the decorations are going to be fabulous. I'm so excited to share picture details with you! For now, I leave you with a few google color collages featuring Teacher Kindness's awesome and modern wedding colors.

(I love yellow for summer weddings- really what says SUMMER better)

This quote inspired this post:
The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart. -Elisabeth Foley

Do you have a friend you truly treasure, but maybe don't see as often as you like?

You're Invited: Summer BBQ

A few months ago we made the move from the world of condos to a home with a backyard. {Another post on the woes of moving and buying short sales to come!}

This was a very exciting time for us!! At the same time, we realized we didn't own any patio furniture. 3 months after we closed, we're still furniture less outside. With summer approaching we want to fill that space and prepare for a summer of bbqs with all our friends!

We have the first part down: A GRILL- pretty much an absolute must in the *Hunnel Household*.

Today being Tuesday, I thought I would link up with Tara from fabulous but evil. Since, I'm always window shopping so to speak at Target or browsing online I thought I would share my latest wish list with all of you. Seriously though, I could get lost in Target for hours- it's dangerous!
Patio Set I'm *loving* right now. I'm liking the way the apple green pops and of course the durability of wicker

While I'm dreaming- how about a back yard movie package! Complete with projector and inflatable screen. L.O.V.E.

Easter Recap

Time for some Easter fun and style the Hunnel way. Little C rocked another sweater vest, check out Stress Case for more sweater vest action!

He also had a fun egg hunt and loved chasing eggs just as they slipped out of his grasp. The rain paused the egg hunt for almost everyone. Cousin Soccer would not be deterred.

Colin followed eggs under the table

The boys show off their style

The Hunnel family gathers for a photo

We discovered Little C's love for watermelon and that his new little teeth do a pretty good job at helping the watermelon disintegrate.  Gramma Owl prepared a feast of honey-baked ham, roast beef, and turkey! Colin had his share of ham and broccoli, with some watermelon to top it off.

two sippy cups on stand by ;-)

Check in Wednesday to see this mama and Colin show our stlye! Today we're linking up with Momma Go Round.

Crash

Hello blog world,

Today I let Little C hold my phone while talking to his Nana. This was a mistake. You see, Little C put the phone in his mouth then banged it on the ground all while I cleaned up the mess that is his room. In the time that it took me to put those toys in the basket my phone went black.

-Lessons of this mama

Dear phone,

Why do you torture me with ringtones when I can't see who is calling. Why do you alert me to text messages when I can't view them. Phone, I will miss my cardio trainer app, the ability to blog, check tweets and facebook all from my phone. The first time I drive to an unknown destination I will miss your google maps app. Phone you were so good to me. I apologize.

Truly Sorry,
Shellsea

Irvine Park Railroad

I promised more pictures from our park day and here they are:

Colin crawled all over the grassy area
Trying to contain him to the picnic blanket was exasperating as was keeping twigs out of his mouth!
He found everything the size of his fist in a five foot radius.

Colin looked at mama every time she sat down after setting the timer.
He waved at other playing kids.

He met the Easter Bunny and smiled *making me smile*

That's so BEAST!

Confused? So was I.

If you don't have a twelve-year-old or converse regularly with twelve-year-olds you are probably thoroughly confused. "Beast" is the new "cool". I sadly realized I was not in touch with the youth of today while learning this little fact. My twelve-year-old nephew who is "super cool" clued me in. Sister Nicknames is an awesome mama to three kiddos along with being an avid reader and also "super cool". Let me fill you in on how the conversation went:

Me: We're going to dinner tonight to celebrate Grandpa baseball and Grandpa Golf's birthdays.
J: beast.
Me: Huh?
J: beast.
Me: What are you saying?
J: beast.
Me: Is that the new "cool"?
J: duh. (insert eye roll here. I didn't see one of course, but he would be totally valid in giving his uncool aunt one)

Below is a picture of Cousin J, Cousin dirtbike, and Cousin lulu with Colinator.

After J's baseball win! Go Rangers!

Dedication to my Dad

Two weeks ago, I posted about my Sunday morning. What I didn’t say then was it was my dad’s birthday! I was up very early to call my dad to wish him a happy birthday. You see, if I get up at 7 to call my dad he has surely been up for hours already. I had to wake up extra early to call him. As long as I’ve been around my dad as risen with the sun or well before.

I wish I could have been there with my family for my dad’s birthday celebration, but my parents live 1,393 miles away. Yes, I counted them. It’s a days drive and a four hour plane trip. Not too bad and we go as often as we can.

Despite not being there I called my dad early in the morning and several more times over the course of the day to catch up and see what was happening. I can be annoying like that.

I am truly grateful for everything my dad did and continues to do for our family; working long hard hours so my mom could be a stay at home mom to myself and three sisters. Even though my dad worked hard I never realized it because he always put us first. He was at sporting events, dance recitals (only one year of dance for me!), and school awards ceremonies.

Here’s to my rancher dad! Thanks dad, I love you!

A Day at the Park

Have you been to Irvine Regional Park?
You need to go! I promise it's great for everyone and if you live in the area it's a must visit.

The Hunnel family went there today. We had a great picnic, saw some ponies, and Little C met the Easter Bunny!

More pictures from this family outing to come soon! Do you have any parks in the southern California are you recommend?

Friday Reads

I'm starting a new blogging challenge for myself.

It's the book-a-month challenge. This will help me with my 101 in 1001 list and get me reading again. Where did I come up with this idea? I first heard about it at  Nina Badzin's blog from Theta Moms. She is a writer and lover a books, through her blog I found the Friday Reads blog.

This is what I LOVE about blogs- there are so many out there! The entire blogosphere is connected and there are so many great people to meet.

Before Little C, I read numerous books and loved being immersed in new stories. For Christmas, MIL Beach (pretty much her favorite place *I could have also called her MIL style* bought me a Kindle
along with Sister Nicknames.
Since getting my kindle for Christmas, I have played numerous “every word” games and read zero books. Yes, zero. I know it’s sad. Hence, the book-a-month challenge.

This is officially my first Friday Reads. My books will be e-editions to encourage me to read on my kindle. This week I’m starting with a fun short novel I read awhile back. I’m re-reading Something Borrowed because the movie is coming out and I love The Office and Ginnifer Goodwin.

P.S. don’t expect book reviews- I’m no expert!

101 in 1,001

Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Menu Plan Monday

Hey Everyone! It's Monday again and that means it's time to menu plan! This week I'm linking up with Organizing Junkie. Here's my plan:

Monday: Grilled Cheese and Chicken Noodle Soup
Tuesday: Alaskan Cod, Asparagus, and Rice Pilaf
Wednesday: Baked Chicken, Green Beans, and Scalloped Potatoes
Thursday: Enchilada Casserole
Friday: Pumpkin Shallot Ravioli and Caesar Salad

Last week's TNC and grilled steak were delish!

9 Month Milestones

It's happened.
Colin is mobile,
Little C used to roll, but not very far

He picked it up a notch to keep me on my toes.
*I think I may be in for a lifetime of that*
(Oh you noticed- Little C is just in a diaper- don't judge I have enough laundry to do)

What's this? This would be Colin crawling all the way from the living room to the bathroom.
Just so he could knock over the trash can. (as evidenced) Was that enough for Little C?
Nope! He pulled himself up to the toilet.

If you haven't been following the posts so far, in the period of 48 hours:
Colin began crawling across a room.
Pulled trash cans down.
Pulled himself up.

What does this mean for me? Well, Colin pulls himself up in his crib during nap time. Yea, that just got a lot harder. Refusing nap time and looking so cute at the same time. I'm doomed. But, oh so lucky. I'm realizing being a mom is bittersweet. Remembering yesterday while hoping for that next milestone to be reached.

What do you love about being a mom?

Sunday Mornings

and afternoon and evenings too!

Last week, I talked about how a good Sunday Morning is watching the sunrise, getting to the gym and church before noon. Let me preface this post by saying that I also enjoy sleeping in and relaxing on Sunday too.

This Sunday morning I did two/three from last Sunday's list. For the third, well I didn't go to the gym this morning because instead it's C25k training day.

Confession about the sunrise- I totally went back to sleep. (Remember the sleeping in part?) Best of both worlds if you ask me!

My favorite thing about this morning was the confirmation ceremony at church for RCIA. One year ago, I participated in the last rite of initiation and it was very special for me. My sponsor gave me this symbolic locket.

What's your favorite thing about Sundays?

Superman goes to the Doctor

(our little superman)

Little C, also known as Colinator and Superman had his 9 month check up Wednesday!

(his shots from his 2 month check up)
Just look at those chunker legs! I love them!! 7 months ago the nurses told me to make sure and take those band-aids off right away because they are a choking hazard. I thought, of course I will, but my little guy can't exactly peel stuff off and doesn't put things in his mouth.

Well fast forward to Wednesday- no warning this time. I suppose they figure you should have it all wired. I remembered my warning from 7 months ago- so this time Little C got one shot in his thigh and another in the foot for a hemoglobin level check.
Why the choking hazard flashback?- you guessed it! I threw away the band-aid off his thigh, but didn't see the one on his foot anymore. Well, no big! Probably fell off somewhere in the journey back home. Moments later I'm playing with my superman making him fly (common game for us!) and just then I notice something in his mouth!!!
It's a band-aid!!!
Immediately I hook my finger and grab it out, then freak out and feel thankful I saw it before he choked. Deep sigh here.
Now for some pics from the 9 month photo shoot!

Colin Stats:
weight- 24 lbs, 4 oz (85%)
height- 29 inches (75%)
head circumference- 19 inches (96%)

Running

So, for a long time now I’ve loved running (or really slow jogging in my case). I enjoy it as a form of exercise and way to just be outside. I’ve ran by myself and I’ve had running partners.
When my sister (outdoorsy sister) and I lived together (like when I was in college and she was in high school) we ran together. I ran in high school with friends, and before Little C I was running with a fellow co-worker (baker mama, mom of baby O).
Secretly for awhile now I’ve wanted to run a half marathon- 26 miles is way to scary right now! I actually decided to get serious about this endeavor and luckily just moved in next door to an amazing person, mom of four, and someone who likes to run in the mornings! Well, I hopped right on that and asked if I could run with her. She runs at 5:45 am!! With a few other women about 4 miles! Umm, yeah I’m not quite ready for that. But being the awesome person she is she said she would run with me at my pace one day a week. Bless her. So, we run Friday mornings.
Just recently, as in this week, Stress Case and I started running together, yeah! It was her idea to do a Couch 2 5k program and it was the best idea ever. When she said that, I felt like my want of running a half marathon was in reach. My thoughts were maybe do two 5ks then a 10k and work myself up to 13 miles next year. Well folks, Week 1 of the nine week C25k program will be completed tomorrow and on Memorial Day I will be running in my first 5k!! I am so excited! Thank you to Stress Case and all those other people that agreed to run (ahem, jog/walk occasionally) with me over the years.

Monday: Tuna Noodle Casserole and Caesar Salad
Tuesday: Grilled Steak, Baked Potato, and Green Beans
Wednesday: Crock Pot- Chicken Breasts with Rosemary
Thursday: Breaded Pork Chops, Apple-Ginger chutney, and Asparagus
Friday: TNC Leftovers :-)

Mondays are crazy days for me for a number of reasons:
One, It’s the first day after the weekend and despite making the house a project it manages to get thrashed from comings and goings.
Two, Tues-Thur are busy with projects and Little C trips This means all cleaning, laundry and other projects need to be done today. By the time I get home on Tuesday-Thursday it’s time to cook dinner and relax with Mr. Hunnel.
Three, It’s the day I menu plan for the week and grocery shop (see reason two).
Four, It’s the day I run all my errands so they are not left for Friday.
Today, I am feeling extremely lucky because Little C actually went down for his morning nap without a hitch! Giving me this time to blog amongst other things like doing laundry. ;-)

Sunday Mornings

I love a good Sunday Morning where I have the opportunity to watch the sunrise. It's a plus when I can make it to the gym and church before noon. Today I accomplished one out of three. I'm writing this down today for two reasons. One, I am starting to blog again because I'm inspired by someone I know personally who is blogging very well (meaning one post per day). Two, I really want to go for three/three next week and with someone reading about it I know I will.

As you can see I started last August when Colin was one month old. Tomorrow, he'll be nine months old. I am determined to give blogging another try and in the process keep everyone entertained with hilarious Colin events, doctor updates, and a count down to his first birthday.

Next Sunday, I want to accomplish all three of my favorite Sunday Morning things. I also want to take Colin to see the Easter Bunny. So, pictures to come next Sunday and for this week pictures to come from the past 6 months I've been away.
