Tanaka Farms: Strawberry Tours

Tanaka Farms in Irvine, CA is a great place to bring the kids for some farm fun
I decided to take Little C for some farm fun with my moms group. While it's a little pricy ($15 for adults) it is tons of fun and educational too!
I've been to Tanaka Farms once before for their Pumpkin Patch in October.

When I signed up to go I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. I will say that I was pleasantly pleased.

We rode in an old fashioned wagon pulled by tractor all over the farm stopping at different crops to learn about the fruit and vegetables. The surprise: We got to eat the *fresh, organically grown* veggies! Green beans, broccoli flowers (yes, you read that right! they totally tasted like broccoli-very misleading!), carrots, snap peas, green onions (I bit right into the bulb of the onion!), and of course strawberries!

Little C trying green beans

Little C chomping on a carrot! Is it just me or does he look really big for 10 months! What happened to my baby?

For the conclusion, all the kids and parents got to pick their own strawberries and fill up baskets to take home.

Hey mom, "I can cruise all along these strawberry fields!"
Look at me mom, "I'm picking strawberries!"

*No children were harmed during this process. No worries my under one year old son did not consume any strawberry products.*

Memorial Day

Today is a day we pay tribute to and thank all those who serve or who have served for us. I feel honored to be born into a country where men and women sign up every day to represent our country and stand up for everything we value as citizens.

Today I participated in the Laguna Hills Saddleback Memorial 5K.
Running a 5k is something I have wanted to do for a long time now, but never felt like I could. I was nervous and never quite felt brave enough. Today I did it. I first mentioned to all my readers here. I also talked about how Nurse SC and I were beginning a training program for a 5K. I will be giving an update and review about the training program in the next two weeks.

Back to the 5K.
I ran it, well jogged some. I cannot tell you how it felt to complete this. It was absolutely amazing to participate in this event. It as an amazing accomplishment for myself to make the goal, train for the goal, then complete the goal. I felt so great (besides being slightly tired and sore) to be out there running. I woke up at 5:30 am, arrived at the 5K around 6:20 am, and the race started at 7:00 am. The best part was I ran it with Nurse SC and Outdoorsy Sister

Outdoorsy Sister also worked on the C25K training program for the past two months! This is her second 5K!

Grateful Sunday: Sisters

I haven't been posting much this week.
(Have you noticed?)
Let me tell you why: One of my three sisters is visiting today from Idaho!!
Cannot even tell you how happy this makes me. She flew in on Monday and we have literally spent every minute together.
outdoorsy sister and me @ Mariner's game (2007)

This Sunday's post is extra special. I like participating in Link Parties to meet new bloggers. Two parties I often participate with are Tara's Target Tuesday and Lindsey's What I Wore Wednesday

Grateful Sundays
Today, I am participating in a *new* link party. One hosted my Nurse SC you'll find her over at her blog, Stress Case. This link party gives me a chance to reflect on something I am truly grateful for my sisters.

If you're visiting from the link party. I hope you'll take a moment to comment and look around. Learn more about my family and our camping adventures, cooking, or my running pursuits and wwiw. If you like what you see- become a follower!

What I Wore Wednesday

Another Wednesday and another edition of what I wore
the pleated poppy blog
I am so loving Wednesday now.
A big thank you to techie husband and other friends who are indulging me by taking my picture.
There were a few weeks where I tried taking my own picture usually cropping off my head or having a big flash. I am a total photographer amateur

Techie husband and I got all dressed up to go on a date! Yeah!!
But, so goes the life with a baby toddler and the date did not happen. :(
Little C got a fever so instead... being the total paranoid mom that I am, decided to take him to see the doctor.
He wasn't diagnosed with anything which was a relief and we had a great family night in and it was perfect.
That's Hunnel Happenings.

Shimmering in gold this week
Top: Ann Taylor Loft
Jeans: Victoria Secret
Shoes: Victoria Secret

The top has sparkles and gold scallop lacing on the bottom- so pretty!

Do you have a date night attire you prefer?

Mischievous Little C

There is nothing Little C won't get in his hands into now. This recent discovery along with a new email in my inbox had me reeling. "What your toddler needs" read the subject line from one of those numerous baby websites I signed up for back when I was pregnant.

Wait, what?
Does that say toddler?

Sure enough, it does. But, I have a baby. I can still hold him and cuddle him, but come to think of it that is happening less frequently. So, I googled "toddler". It's true. I have a toddler.
When did this happen?
Wikipedia or some other site I checked (there were like five, I was holding onto the baby notion).

The toddler stage begins around 10 months, we're at 10.5 here. You know when the kid starts toddling. Little C has been mobile for awhile and getting more gusty every day when he cruises around the furniture. Going from the couch to the coffee table and back.

His new favorite activity:
standing up at the entrainment center, opening the glass panels and pulling everything out. Sigh. The first time it was so cute and fun to watch! The 100th time a little cute but a lot less fun.

Buying a Short Sale

Disclaimer: I am not an expert when it comes to buying homes, I am not a real estate agent, I am not a broker, lender, or have anything else to do with the real estate business.

I am a wife and a mother who just bought her first home. I can only give you advice from my point of view and hopefully shed some light on a confusing process (at least it was for me!). I promised to write a post on the woes of home buying back when I invited you all over for a summer bbq!

What is a short sale?
A short sale is when a homeowner is upside down in their mortgage and selling to avoid foreclosure. The bank (that is the lender) has to approve the sell since they will lose money, but it is different from a foreclosure where the bank owns the house. Also, to add there are a lot of short sales in my area (Southern California) in fact this may be my skewed viewpoint but I would say like 90%! (total exaggeration).

Now that you have a little idea what a short sale is...

The waiting game.
Buying a short sale can take a very long time or no time at all. It is very common for you to put your offer in and not hear back from the bank for a few months at which point the answer could be no. If it is an approved short sale things can move faster.

Approved short sales.
In order to bring in more traffic on a house often the listing price is well below the already low market price. It is also well below what the bank will accept. One might think that this is not fair, but this is the world of short sales. Also worth mentioning is the fact that banks continue to accept offers on a home after they have the first offer and even when the home is in escrow! That is one way an approved short sale comes about (when a home falls out of escrow). An approved short sale is a price the bank has already agreed to take, thus making it a faster home buying process.

Our Story.
We looked for a home to buy on and off for three years. We put in about 20 offers. (not kidding!) This is completely different from the way home buying used to be. Several people would tell us "you look at home, you think it over, then you put an offer in if you like it,then you get the home". Not the case with a short sale. There were often times where we put our trust in our Realtor (who was awesome by the way!!) and submitted an offer without seeing the home in person. Even though the home buying process moves very slowly a house could have 5 offers on it the first day it went on the market. Since you could withdraw your offer and there was no money involved at this very early step it made sense to do this. (little sense, I'm sure)

Eventually we found our home, the home we had been waiting for. It was everything we wanted and more. I love our new home and our neighborhood. We moved into our home 3 months after we made our offer. It was a very quick process for us. We were lucky and I know it. I am incredibly grateful.

Short sales are a touchy subject because it means they are coming at a time when many people may or may not want to sell their home. I feel for all these homeowners, parents, children, and families.

Friday Reads

This Friday I have been reading a lot of blogs. Seriously an addiction! Mr. Hunnel or techie husband and I have left the weekend plan free to accomplish home improvement projects and goals.

I have been stuck over at I heart Organizing, Jen is amazing and there are so many wonderful ideas. The inspiration is contagious and I am excited to organize my pantry this weekend now. Along with a dozen other things on the list. It's a pretty ambitious list for the weekend, but Jen's blog is encouraging me!

I've also been reading Mr. and Mrs. Smith's blog, Lindsey is funny and dedicated. Her weekly jiggle challenge and personal running goals have been very encouraging for me to run my upcoming 5K

Weight Loss Challenge

About one month ago I started Friday Reads and my book-a-month challenge. I am currently on my third book and we are one month out. Right on track!

Last week, I linked up with Megan and Heather for their Book Club Fridays. I'm moving a *little* slow in my current book, it's another re-read. This time I am reading Secret Garden which I haven't read since I was kid. Last Friday I was quickly looking for something to read for my weekend in Palm Springs and this was the first book I downloaded- not sure exactly what I was thinking.
Should have it done soon and I'll be checking in with Friday Reads and Megan and Heather again next week!

What I Wore Wednesday

This week I wore a skirt I haven't worn since I was teaching. (I pretty much lived in skirts and dresses when I taught) and a scarf my sister knitted for me. This week I am linking up with Lindsey from the pleated poppy. If you get a chance check out her shop for lots of cute accessories.

So back to that skirt and scarf! I decided to play around a bit with the scarf and tried four different ways to wear it.

Which way do you like best?

Tank top and White shirt- Nordstrom Rack
Skirt- really old possibly Ross
Scarf- hand knitted by sister glamorous
(she's in the process of knitting me more stuff- love her!)

For dinner with friends I wore this outfit:

Jeans- Levis from Macy*s
Tank- Target
Sweater- Nordstrom
Shoes- Brown suede wedges from Target
(the picture didn't get my shoes- but I love them)
I decided to snap a picture of Miss cool and collected's shoes instead because they are so cute.

 love these shoes.

I wore these bracelets with the outfit. Both Brighton, both gifts.

If you're stopping by for the first time, Welcome! This really isn't a fashion blog as much as it is an accountability and family blog for myself. Find out more me and my camping adventures, reading and running goals, and the reason I started blogging, Little C!

Target Tuesday

This Target Tuesday, I'm focusing on clothes!
Clothes for Little C that is.
Tara over at fabulous, but evil hosts a fun link up party where you just blog about anything you are wanting from Target at that moment. Who doesn't love Targay? <-- get that? :-) They have everything under the sun and there stuff is totally affordable and cute. win win.

On Sunday when I came back from Palm Springs, techie husband tells me that Little C needed new clothes because he has outgrown almost everything. I didn't turn down an opportunity to go shopping! Since, Little C has also started cruising so shoes were also on the list.
some cute plaid boat shoes
I love outfits at a good price. And again, couldn't resist the plaid shorts.

Love these footie pajamas! Little C already has a pair like this from his grandma beach, but he is quickly outgrowing them. I also like how this is the summer version.

Dinner with Friends

Last Wednesday, you know right before the Blogger Blunder, I went to dinner with two friends. It was a lot of fun to reconnect. I was all ready to publish my post last Thursday and then I was locked out of Blogger for two days! Sigh. I didn't realize how much I was going on blogger before that lock out
By the time blogger was up on Friday I was on my way to Palm Springs and thus computer free! (I still blogged a little- thanks blogger droid!)

The three of us got together for appetizers and dessert.
(Who needs a main course!?)
We started with the Wisconsin Trio cheese fondue- so yummy!

I got to catch up on Miss (soon to be Mrs.) cool and collected upcoming wedding and all about Mrs. Oragnized new job and her business travels. I am so thankful for all my good friends and these two wonderful women. Through the years we have enjoyed many a game nights and a couples trip to Lake Arrowhead. We've been to each other weddings and they came to see Little C after he was born. I love my friends!

After a good amount of catching up- it's hard to get together with all of our busy lives! We moved onto the dessert course. A dark chocolate fondue with sea salt. I love sweet and salty mixed together, especially when it's salt on something like chocolate or caramel. I didn't get a chance to snap a picture before it was mostly gone!

And, of course Little C came too!

(Miss cool and collected, me, Little C, Mrs. Organized)
