Recipe Thursday: Pizza on the Grill

Breaking out the stand mixer this week! Found this perfect recipe that incorporates yummy pizza and the grill. Two things I love.

Fresh tomatoes laid right on the grill to simmer in goodness with a dash of kosher salt.
Chopped basil and mozzarella melt beautifully on the dough as you flip it over the grill.

Recipe Thursday

This arrived on my doorstep! You can bet I was thrilled when my doorbell rand and I looked outside to see a big box! I had no idea what it was, but it had a gift tag. It was housewarming gift from Grampa Racecars and Gramma Crafty. I opened the blue bag to discover:

A Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer 5 quart!!! I was beyond thrilled!

Also it was Empire Red to match my kitchen!! L.O.V.E.

This brings me to our recipe for this week:
Rosemary Focaccia
(I quickly read the directions on how to use my new mixer and got to work on this amazing bread!)

Recipe found here
I did not use honey or eggs.
I let my mixer do all the work while using the dough hook for the first time!

I love this bread that I can get at a local cafe and I tried to replicate it. It was delicious, but obviously not as good.

Bread going in oven to bake- yum!

Ready to Slice!

What have you made lately?
What would you like to make with a stand mixer?

It's Officially Summer

Summer Soltice.
Schools are out. (Late here, I know)
June 21.
Whatever you call it, summer starts today officially. For me it arrived with temps of 83 degrees. Not bad after all the June Gloom we've had.
See, I annouced summer on May 1st back when here in Southern California we saw our first day in the 80 degree spectrum.
I even invited you to a summer barbecue. Well, all that was premature because June Gloom hit and it hit hard.
I'm a little on the fence with the summer soltice. I love that it is the longest day of the year(sun light wise)!
I've been loving the sun come up before 6am and set after 8pm.
So why am I on the fence? I'll tell you after today the days start getting shorter.
Not a fan.
But, I'll celebrate today for what it is. Late date night with Techie Husband for dinner and a concert. Love him!
What about you?
Do you like the longer daylight and wish it would last? How did you celebrate this official start of summer?

Ortega Canyon Hike

If you live in the Southern California area and enjoy hiking you need to check out the unofficial hiker's blog. It's an awesome website for finding good hiking spots.

Little C loves hikes!!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I wanted a hiking backpack to carry Little C in on my Target Tuesday post. My Techie Husband being the amazing guy he is purchased the Kelty backpack for me for Mother's Day and we used it for a hike during our camping trip!

I was of course very excited and we've used it every weekend we could since then.
(post coming soon about June Gloom)
Cloudy days make for great hiking days because it's just cool enough, rainy days not so much.

We decided to try a trail a little further away from home and a little more intense. We didn't really know how far we would get, but we were willing to check it out. We read the review at So Cal Hiker and were on a mission to see this:

We did not see those falls. That hike proved to be a little out of our league still! But, we're working on it. We completed the San Juan Loop 2.2 hike in Ortega Canyon and saw some beautiful scenery including the San Juan Falls:

More hiking adventures to come! Did you catch the Saturday Snapshot this week of myself and Techie Husband posing before a hike?

In my absence...

I missed my blog and missed fellow bloggers. I have had bloggers block for the past, oh, 18 days. I haven't been up to anything fantastic or crazy during this break. I've just been caught up in every day life. I will confess I have been watching a lot of television shows and sleeping. Like everything, you have to make time for things you want to do and I have been going to bed early, like 9:00 pm early.

Tonight, I have stayed up to write this blog entry. Do you know how when you're away from something for awhile you don't really know how to go back? This brings me back to my days as a server in college. I worked six days a week sometimes working a "double" (two shifts in one day), but when I went on vacation or just had three days off in a row I would always feel awkward initially my first day back.

If anyone is still reading this blog, I hope you all will forgive this absence and come back to read more. I did get some feedback from family members that they weren't getting enough Little C posts- completely understandable. He's a pretty cute kid in my biased opinion so why wouldn't they want more!

Some upcoming post ideas (I need to get into that pre-written post thing) I'll be working on:
Recap of Sister Glamorous' visit from March
Recap of Sister Outdoorsy's visit
Little C's upcoming birthday parties (explanation to come for plurality!)
Hiking reviews
More Day at Park posts (we've been going to lots!)
Something I've been working on to be revealed in August!

Good night blog world!

One Month Until One Year

I am writing this post a little late to commemorate Little C turning 11 months
Seriously, when did it become June 10th! I'm six days behind on this post to be exact. Which means it is more like three weeks not one month until my baby turns one year.

On June 4th Techie Husband and I attended the wedding for Teacher Kindness-
pictures and post coming soon!
And on that day Little C was only one short month away from turning ONE.

These past eleven months have gone by so fast and Little C has grown up so quickly.

Size he is wearing: 12-18 months
Weight: 26 lbs. (according to Wii Fit Baby Stats)
Height: unknown but definitely taller based on reaching higher objects
Milestones: climbs stairs, stands, cruises very quickly! no walking yet, but walks along the wall! gives high fives- cutest thing ever!

In other news: Stanly Cup Finals are going on. Game 5 tonight. I favor the Canucks, but live with some Boston supporters.

We'll see who is victorious. Oh, didn't I mention that Techie Husband is totally a Hockey Husband also? Auntie Outdoorsy even made Little C a LA Kings blanket (Techie Husband's favored team).

New Blog Design (Free)

Remember this picture? You might if you've been reading this blog. This cute photo of Little C is one of my absolute favorites.

This blog header has been up since I decided to blog more often (Aprilish) and leave behind the totally simple green leaf design. Sticking with the natural look and a little winter I went with a brown background and this amazing personalized header.

Now, when you visit you will see a new header (look up top) and a whole new background.
I haven't splurged on a custom design. Just found a cute free template from the cutest blog on the block and customized some font colors.
Obviously I'm feeling the unofficial start of summer ever since June arrived at my doorstep. A little beach feel and some lighter colors than browns and reds.

What do you think?

What I Wore Wednesday

It's been one crazy week! My sister flew in last Monday, a good friend is having her wedding this Saturday (having fun with last minute wedding details), and I ran my first 5K two days ago on Memorial Day. My sister helped me to snap two pictures this week for all of my devoted readers.

I drooled over some Stella & Dot jewelry wondering if I'll ever get the hang of "accessorizing" my outfits. Good news for all my readers that follow my What I wore Wednesday posts...I tried something new.

Inspired by Momma Go Round (who I'm linking up with this week-see button) I wore a waist belt.
??Is that what they're called??
I'm totally new at this. But, I really liked it. Tell me what you think! It was fun to wear a dress again, it's been awhile.

Sweater: no label (via goodwill)
Skirt: Coldwater Creek (worn here as dress, via goodwill)
Belt: Forever 21 (new shopper there, thanks wwiw!)
Necklace: Kohl's on sale

Shoes: Brown bow wedges from Target

Read all about my running adventures and first 5K here!
me, Little C, and Techie Husband
My boys at the finish line to cheer me on!
Shirt: event shirt
Pants: cropped Nike running pants

I'm linking up with these awesome parties this week! Go check out some other fabulous styles.
Thanks for visiting!
