Our Love Story: first date

I think it's time I recount our love story. The story of how we met, the story that brought this blog, Heartfelt Happenings, here today.
Let me back up though...
I was inspired to tell this story because of one question:

This is the first blog proposition in the Fabulous Valentine's Blog Challenge with Casey, Amber, and Neely.
With Valentine's Day on the horizon these amazing three bloggers are hosting a pretty fun challenge with lots of blog ideas.

Right away, I knew I wanted to do this and I started thinking of all the dates I've had.
All the best dates and the ones I loved have been with my Hockey Husband.

But, which one do I pick... the hockey games, Seaworld, Disneyland, the day we flew to San Fransisco, birthday or anniversary dinners.
And, then I knew.
The first date.
The date that changed everything.
The date that will always be the best date ever

And that question spurned into me starting our love story. It starts with a date that wasn't just any date.
It was a first date.

It was a blind date.
It was a double date.
{but, not the double date you're thinking. no it was a two dates in one night kind of date.}

Hockey Husband and I were set up by a mutual friend. Each of was asked if we wanted to meet and we both said yes. Before the actual date we chatted via AIM
{remember those days}

We decided to meet on campus that night. We didn't want to wait until the "setup date"
It was set, 7 pm in front of the library.
Then, it happened I saw this tall guy in a hoodie and was drawn to him.
We were both a little shy and a little awkward.
We exchanged names in person, said hello and then started talking.

He asked if I wanted to go to a little coffee shop downtown he knew I liked.
I said, I would love to.
And off we went for part one of our double date night
and the last first date either of us would ever have.

I don't want to make this post any longer than I have. Tomorrow I'll tell the whole story, promise.
until next time...

Revisiting my 101 in 1,001

It's been almost a year since I gave myself 1,001 days to complete 101 tasks. So, how have I done?

#5 completed
#6 lose 25 pounds, on the day that I had to lose it I had only lost 21 pounds. So while I didn't complete this task I am so happy that I lost 21 pounds
#8 Drink only water for one week- even with giving up soda this new year I've yet to do this one. Maybe I'll start tomorrow, hmm.
#9,10,11, and 12 are all about running. So far I have ran two 5ks and have plans to do some more soon. I also want to start my half marathon training very soon!

That's all for now...I'll revisit the other categories later. So it looks like I need to run more and drink only water. Follow my journey on twitter starting tomorrow with these new goals!

from our hiking trip with friends
shout out to MOPS

{Link Love} Week One

Nurse SC over at her blog Stress Case decided to do a little shout out to bloggers all over blogland. and she in encouraging everyone to join in. What posts made you laugh out loud, or encouraged you, or inspired you in some way.

I found two.

Barbara from Footprints in the Sand blogged about being home on maternity leave and how working keeps her sane. It was an incredibly honest post, like all of her writing.

Leah from Keep Your Sunny Side Up blogged about being brave and trying something new as she gets ready to go to the Socal Blogger Meet-up.

Lots of Link Love

My New Blog Design

If you are coming to my page for the first time, welcome!
You probably are not aware that this is a brand new design. In fact over time this blog page has seen its fair share of free designs and some beautiful headers too.

But none of those compare to the talent of Jenn from Munchkin LandDesigns.
Have you met Jenn?

I am so beyond ecstatic with my blog's new look.
To be honest I have loved Jenn's designs for a really long time now. I was just about to purchase one for myself as a Christmas gidt when I won Jenn's December Twitter contest!
Rumor has it she'll be having another contest on Monday.

I don’t know about you, but my blog is my personal space where I can look back over time and remember how I felt during a particular event.
So I re-read my blog posts often. That may be a little weird, but I like to do it.
Now, it’s so great to have a beautiful, custom design that screams “me” when I read those memories.

Looking back I wish I would have taken more screen shots of past designs because they reflected a part of me at the time, but I do have a few past headers to share with you.

You may have also noticed that in addition to a new design this blog now has a new name!

If you've made it this far, I would love to hear what you have to say! What do you think of the new layout?

What I Wore Wednesday

Have you heard of a heat wave in January. I'm not even sure if you can call these days of warm temps heat waves in Southern California any more.
Just par for the course.
It's warm almost every day of the year. This means I can be comfortable in jeans, but also warm in shorts.
I'm complaining, just stating the facts. I know some people are caught up in months of snow right now and I do appreciate my sunshine.
We did get some rain this week! I love the rain, like really love it.
Yeah, but since it only rains about five days out of the year I've never bothered to purchase puddle boots or an umbrella.
Thus my outfits don't change all that much.

Here I am with my favorite accessory, Little C.

shirt- Maurice's old
sweater- Loft
jeans- Levi's
Little C:
shirt- Children's Place
jeans- Children's Place
shoes- boat shoes from Babies r Us

shirt- Loft
shorts- Target

I was trying my hair curled instead of straightened or wavy.
What do you think?
I just cut it (post coming soon) haven't tried curling it since.

Leaky Pipes, part two

On Friday, I began the story of my first adventure in being a homeowner.
A plumbing problem.

Let me continue,
To recap we went without hot water for five whole days.
{we turned it on briefly to shower}
I boiled water to do dishes.
I was unable to do laundry, so that wasn't too bad.
{until the weekend hit and I could do laundry that is}

We were lucky and the leak was contained between the hot water service pipe and our washing machine.

I mentioned two plumbers on Friday. We received a second opinion and I was glad we had two opinions, but went with the first.
Just felt more comfortable with the first and that's important when someone will be working in your house.

Now for the work...our floors did not have to be pulled and there was no damage.
Again, lucky!

Our walls did have to be torn a part. The whole ordeal took three days and was all patched up and ready to go by Friday!

Now, I'm thinking maybe time to paint the laundry room.

Some fun refreshing color! Any recommendations?

I'm joining the parties at Miscellany Monday and Mingle Monday

Saturday Snapshot

Good bye awesome Photos, PICNIK says goodbye.

I'm sure by now you have heard of picnik. It's amazing and awesome. And it's closing.

This sucks.
Yep, it's true. If you subscribe to PICNIK you probably got an email like this in your inbox.
"Official Announcement: Picnik is closing"
Not gonna lie- I almost cried a little.

Apparently you can get the same effects on google +.
Ugh, I haven't figured out how to use google + in all its glory yet.

Let's look through some awesome collages and amazing things made through the awesomeness that is PICNIK.
Christmas Fun Collages of decorations and food

My first picture header for this blog and the first time I used picnik.

Now for the good news PICNIK PREMIUM is FREE until April. So start using! Have fun.

Are you going to miss picnik? Do you think you'll start using

Leaky Pipes, part one

Oh plumbing woes.
Last Sunday, we discovered a leak in our garage.
In retrospect, we missed all the warning signs.
{yep, first time home owners right here}

Monday morning a plumber comes out.
Post tension slab leak.
Tuesday, another plumber.
Post tension slab leak, but in a lot more places.

For those who don't speak plumber "post tension slab leak" means very bad with a hint of expensive.
We discovered that it was just the hot water. We were able to turn just the hot water off so we weren't completely without water.

I bet you're starting to wonder just how many days we had no hot water.
Five days.
Monday morning until Friday afternoon.
Okay, before you start thinking, we were really stinky people without showering,
keep reading...
Because, it was just the hot water leak, we turned the hot water on briefly to shower.
This meant no luxurious thirty-minute hot shower.
Okay, who I am kidding I haven't taken a shower that long since Little C was born.
Maybe on some Saturdays, maybe.

No laundry for five days. No dishwasher.
I washed dishes by boiling a pot of water first.
old school right there.

Stay tuned for part two tomorrow.
I'll talk about picking a plumber and might even have a recommendation for you!

Recipe Thursday: Dutch Baby

The Dutch Baby is really easy to make, requires minimal ingredients, and is delicious. That's why it's one of my go to weekend breakfast dishes!

3 tablespoons butter, melted and divided
2 3/8 ounces all-purpose flour, approximately 1/2 cup
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup whole milk, room temperature
2 large eggs, room temperature
The Process:
Step One: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. I begin by taking my eggs out and pouring milk into a measuring cup then return shortly usually after making myself a cup of coffee.

Step Two: I use a glass ramekin to put the butter into then put in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Then, place 2 tablespoons of the butter into a 10-inch cast iron skillet and place in the oven.

Step Three: Set the remaining tablespoon of melted butter aside to cool slightly. Wait 10 minutes before assembling the other ingredients. Place the flour, vanilla sugar, salt, milk, eggs and remaining tablespoon of melted butter into the bowl of a food processor or blender and process for 30 seconds. I use my blender.

Step Four: Carefully pour the batter into the preheated skillet. Bake on the middle rack of the oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until the edges are puffed and brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with lemon wedges or jam. I use blackberry jam, yum!

This is an Alton Brown recipe, like so many I'll blog or tweet about. I am a huge Good Eats fan- you should check it out!

Little C Happenings: Sleepless Nights

What's been happening in Little C's world lately? Well, he hasn't been sleeping so well and if he's not sleeping well I'm not either. Poor guy. This has been going on for a month now. Every single night he has been waking up. I think he may be teething again, but that's total speculation. I really have no idea. All I know is I was tired.

I said was, because for the past few night Little C has gone back to regular schedule of sleeping 11-12 hours.  Do you have any idea what that first night of sleep feels like after an entire month of waking up. It's pure bliss people. I am really lucky in the fact that I'll sleep through the night if he does. I don't wake up from habit, thus I'll wake up in the morning and just smile. Usually I roll over to Hockey Husband and say Little C slept through the night- yeah! I do a little cheer-not even kidding.
Here's hoping I can do another cheer tomorrow morning.

Blogger Navigational Bar: How to

This is a how to post, but let me preface with I am no html genius. I just played around a bit and figured a few things out.
Also, Google is my best friend
What worked for me may not work for you.
All that said let's begin:
How to create pages otherwise known as a navigational bar and tabs.
Come back in a few days when I show you how to center your newly created navigation bar.
Kind of a big deal if you're crazy like me.

Let's start in the Blogger Dashboard. You'll notice all my screen shots show the new interface. I highly recommend it! I love the new interface for blogger I feel like it's more organized, streamlined, and cleaner. *note Google this does not excuse you for the new gmail interface which is none of those things*

In the new interface you can go to "Pages" under "Posts" and above "Comments"

If you don't choose transparent your navigation bar will look like this:

If you don't want bars in between and a colored background choose transparent.

There you go! Did you find this helpful? Do you have any blogger tips or tricks for me?

The Monday Blues

Okay, I don't really have the Monday Blues. However, I really haven't been posting much lately. I haven't been that busy *with the exception of today*. I've actually had the opportunity to read some new blogs and comment when I can. The truth is I just don't have anything that blog worthy. I have lots of ideas swirling around but they aren't anything more than that, ideas. No detail or body to put with those ideas.

A few things I'm working on:
an html how to
not really sure if anyone is interested, but I learned how to center my header and navigation bar so thought I would share

Little C sleepless nights
possibly partially to blame for lack of blogging

A few recipes I've tried lately
and remembered to take pictures of

also, working on a revisit for my 101 in 1,001 post

I hope you all won't forget about me. I promise to come back with posts soon.

It's Okay Thursday

Its Ok Thursdays

It's okay that…
It's only 5 days into the new year and I may break on one resolution
I let Little C play in cereal he dumped on the floor after pulling it out of childproofed cabinet
I am a little too excited about all the television programming that is starting back up!
I've planned out my entire vacation schedule for 2012
I'm a little weirded out by all the Valentine's decorations
{let me get a breather after the last whirlwind of holidays}
I’m also starting to think of a fun date for me and Hockey Husband on said holiday
I miss Little C during his naps and love to cuddle him when he wakes up!

What's okay with you this Thursday?

Little C Happenings: 18 months

Is this for real? One and a half. I guess so. Little C is 18 months.

Well, I haven't blogged about his monthly milestones in awhile so I guess it's time to catch you up! Also, introducing my new series "Little C Happenings" I also made a page for him!

Today is January 4th making to the actual day that Little C is 18 months.
He has big brown eyes and a head full of golden sometimes brown hair. He likes to smile and laugh. He loves all his toys, but his favorites are the ones he can ride in or push around. Besides his toys...he loves to play with the broom and the vacuum (not his mind you) He also loves mama's phone. sigh.

Little C has been jabbering for awhile now and I have a post coming up with all his first words and possibly a video!

Today I bring you Little C's first sentence I understood! {I say "I" because he says lots of things} His new favorite phrase is "Where did it go?" You can kind of make out the "where" then some gibberish then a totally clear "go" with a high pitched inflection at the end of his question. He does this with both hands up.
Totally cute, people.

We like to play head, shoulders, knees, and toes. He can point to his or mama's ears, nose, and eyes. We play this game daily. He doesn't walk so much as run. He loves to run in circles around our car in the driveway or our table in the dining room. He'll play hide and seek all night long.

weight- 35.0 lbs. 97%
 height- 33.25 inches 75%
 head circumference- 19.8 inches 97%
