2012- The year that flew by!

January started off strong for me in regards to blogging. I celebrated a few birthday’s including a special 30th birthday celebration for Mrs. Organized and Sister Glamorous celebrated her 21st birthday!

My little family started the year with a hike in Casper’s Wilderness with some family friends.
We rounded out the month with our one year anniversary as homeowners and our first big mishap when pipes under our floors burst. That began our relationship with a great plumber who helped when Little C got super mischievous many months later.
A very eventful month! February marks my mom’s birthday month. I went to my very first and only Blogger Meet-Up so far with Nurse SC and Designer KR. I participated in my first blogger swap in honor of Valentine’s Day.
Little C and I ventured to an amazing location near us called Pretend City.  I hosted a playdate for Little C’s friends for Valentine’s Day.  My Hockey Husband who is an amazing chef surprised me with the best dinner a girl could ask for. Filet and lobster tails- yummy.

Hockey Husband and I celebrated another year together and continue to grow in our relationship and marriage with one another. I absolutely love this man.
My parents came to visit and spend sometime with us and get to do so Easter fun with Little C. Sister Outdoorsy had a birthday along with many more birthdays from family and friends.
After participating in my first swap, Nurse SC hosted our very own blogger swap- Spring Sweets Swap and it was a ton of fun!
Around this time, I fell off the blogging wagon. My home daycare picked up and Little C and I had lots of Spring fun. The birthdays continued into this month starting with Cousin Ballerina and my Rancher Dad who had an awesome birthday. Easter Sunday rounded out this month and we saw Little C really get into egg hunting for the first time. We participated in our town’s Spring Fling and I learned about the local Mom’s club.

I ventured off to visit Sister Outdoorsy as she graduated from college with her B.A. in Psychology.  I also got to spend the weekend with my mom for Mother’s Day a first since I moved away five years prior. I debated about what phone to choose.
Summer began with a family visit to the San Diego Zoo. Even though my blogging and subsided I was keeping my twitter and instagram feed up to date with cute family pictures of our visit.
We celebrated Little C’s second birthday.  We spent a week visiting my family amongst the relaxing backdrop of mountains and a lake.  Hockey Husband and I went on a getaway to Banff, Alberta, Canada.  My family hosted the first annual Lx6 Trail Ride through beautiful horse territory.
Sister Outdoorsy came for a visit after her graduatiing and finishing her job with her university. We had a great time as we visited Sea World and lots of LA attractions. My maternal grandmother passed away this month meaning an impromtu visit with my parents and the loss of my last grandparent. The month ended on a cheerful note as we celebrated Hockey Husband's birthday with a big bbq in the park.
We had another family trip to Sea World, announced our pregnancy to friends. Hockey Husband and I attended my 10 year high school reunion.  After a fun and relaxing summer the daycare was in full swing starting with fun toddler preschool activities. We finished off the month with a family dinner in honor of MIL Loves-to-Cook.
Little C began his train obsession this month. He actually starting building the tracks that we have had for over a year and constantly playing trains. This is an ongoing thing. Little C had a blast when we hosted his cousins for a sleepover. We really got into fall activities when we visited a pumpkin patch and an apple orchard. Halloween was a blast because Little C is really getting the hang of this holiday thing and it was his Cousin Dirtbike's birthday so win-win!
My birthday month!! Hockey Husband hosted an amazing Italian dinner with pasta made from scratch including fettuccini and an amazing lasagna. Thanksgiving was hosted by Grandma Owl followed by family pictures the next day then family poker tournament.
After a drought on the blog I started to blog again mainly because Hockey Husband casually mentioned I enjoyed reading your blog. (well, that's all this girl needed to hear!)
MIL loves-to-cook hosted a beautful Ladies Tea to celebrate the holidays. We celebrated some birthdays and hosted a Christmas celebration at our home before spending the holidays with my family in another state.  We were welcomed to a white Christmas.  Finished the month off with some family pictures on this side
Tonight will end with a roaring bonfire in the snow! Happy New Year to you all!

'Tis the season...

for lots of mail!

I hope everyone is enjoying receiving cards in the mail! It really does make this time of year extra special. Does anyone send an annual letter? I've always wanted to, but don't.
I'm sharing my cards with Kristen from all in my twenties and SITS gals!

This year we sent out a pretty simple card just featuring Little C! Getting a family picture around the holidays was taking to long and I had to get these cards out! So we had a mini photo session and voila!

Here's a look at our card last year.

I loved this design, but the "Merry" couldn't change colors and blended into the snow. So I only ordered a few of this scheme and I kept one.
It's crazy to think that next year's card will have a another child in it. Wow.
If you would like to see an alternate photo to the Little C photo shoot I shared one on a Saturday Snapshot post. Which one would you have chosen?

Holiday Tea at the St. Regis

One of my newest and favorite holiday traditions is the Ladies Tea hosted by my Mother-In-Law Loves to Cook. It is a wonderful event to get all the women in the family to enjoy an afternoon together and some scones and tea definitely are an added bonus!
The atmosphere at the St. Regis is grand and luxurious. After pulling up to valet and walking through the large wreath adorned entrance we were greeted by an elaborate sand sculpture. Down the stairs we walked right into Motif the restaurant where their afternoon tea and Sunday brunch take place.

The afternoon tea is served buffet style. One of the first things noticed was the amazing selection of tea sandwiches and each looked delectable. So many details were put forth into the menu and it's obvious. The sandwiches were also very appetizing. Desserts included scones with jam, butter, and Devonshire cream. Crème brûlée, macaroons, mousse, and dozens more personal servings of sweetness.
You won't find any feathered hats here. Everyone I observed was dressed nicely for a cool Autumn day rolling into winter on the beaches of Southern California. Elegant, but relaxed. There were scarves, boots, nice pant suits. Our group had a little of everything including skirts and dresses. We had dashes of patterned black and white, holiday red, jewel tones, and some sparkle.
Tea Service
There were about twelve teas to choose from, I went the with a decaffeinated choice. Your tea comes already brewed in its own pot. I was drinking quite a bit of tea and never once needed a refill nor did it get to cool to drink.

The service is as great as you would expect from a St. Regis and the Monarch Beach location does not disappoint. A server took our tea orders and kept up refills on any other drink order. I never had to ask for anything as needs were anticipated and plates cleared quickly for other courses.

If you would like to read more about this tradition you can check out my post from last year. And make sure to head over to Nurse SC's blog Stress Case for her post on this delightful afternoon and more pictures!

The Details
What: Holiday Afternoon Tea, Saturdays 1-3 pm
Where: St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point, California
Price: $49/per person
Parking: Valet $5 after validation from restaurant

It's cookie time!

Do you bake around the holidays? Chances are probably a yes! If you have an advent calendar full of activities- making cookies might even be on there.

Yesterday, Little C and Cousin Dirtbike baked some sugar cookies. With guidance of course, but really they did all the hard work!

Now, our cookies looked nothing like the ones above after all was said and done, but they were definitely masterpieces in their own right.

I tried snapping pictures as we went, but didn't get a lot of great shots! Cousin Dirtbike is so tall and Little C just isn't there yet! Plus I'm a total picture taking newb! The boys had lots of fun adding all the ingredients and blending them. And, of course we were covered with some flour.

The boys' awesome cookies after decorating:

It was a fun experience all around and I hope they both start making memories from it. Happy Baking everyone!
This recipe was delicious and found here

Headaches and Heartburn

This is week 25 of my pregnancy! I loving it. I love my pregnancy belly and the fact that we are getting a little closer to meeting this baby. What I'm not loving so much are my constant heartburn and headaches.

I didn't even know headaches were a thing in pregnancy until I went to google one night and found out it's pretty common. This pregnancy has definitely been different than the first. It started with nausea and once that subsided I had heartburn to keep me company.

Little C was born with lots of hair and the old wives tale goes that heartburn leads to hair. I only know this because everyone would ask me if I had a lots of heartburn during pregnancy and I didn't at all. Pretty nice, but the heartburn really isn't that bad. Tums are my friend, I sip lots of water through the day, and try not to eat close to when I sleep.

The headaches on the hand...not much I can do about them. The headaches really are not that bad, I'm just not used to ever having headaches.

Only 15 weeks to go and still Team Green.
Still excited about that but super curious as to whether I'm having another boy or girl this time!

DIY Keepsake Ornament

For Little C's first Christmas I made the cutest little ornament. I'm sure you've seen a variety of them, it was his hand print. It's already the most treasured ornament hanging on my tree two years later. I cannot believe how much his little hand has grown!

I wrote his name and the year in a fine point sharpie added a red grosgrain ribbon and it became a keepsake. I actually made about three that year and gave them to grandparents also.

I know the salt-dough recipe is going around, but I used Sculpey clay. With a 40% off coupon at Michael's you've got a pretty good deal.

I took the clay and rolled into a ball. Smushed and flattened it down real good! Then took Little C's itty bitty 6 month old hand two years ago and imprinted in onto the clay. Baked in the oven per the directions on the package for a great DIY heartfelt ornament and gift!

Wrapping with Glitter Paper

I found this beautiful red wrapping paper with a damask print in glitter!
I also picked up a gold wrapping paper with glitter stripes. Incredibly exciting, until I started wrapping.

Good 'ole tape was not doing the job. Not only was the tape not sticking to the glitter, if I did get it to stay the tape was too visible. It wasn't seamless and transparent and I am all about pretty presents.

Ignore the scraps of paper here- trying to be resourceful with some pretty paper :)

The solution: Glue Dots!
I used glue dots to adhere the paper to itself instead of tape and voilà seamless wrapping that stays.

101 in 1,001 update

Hey there!
I'm here to do a little update on my 101 on 1,001 list. It's always available at the top for easy reference. I'll admit I have been seriously slacking on blogging about what I do, but I have been doing okay when it comes to actually accomplishing these goals.

It's crazy to think that it has been over a year since I wrote that list. A lot of what is on there are still things I want to do in my life. And, I was surprised to see that I actually have been doing a few of them.

Let's start with the first section:
1. Read 50 books (5/50)
2. Give a 100% tip
3. Do an anonymous favor
4. Watch the sunrise and sunset in the same day Done this a few times, but want to document with pics
5. Go jogging 3x per week for 3 weeks (completed April 2011)
6. Lose 25 pounds by day 275 (01/14/12) I lost 21 pounds by that date, and 25 pounds eventually
7. Keep off lost weight until baby #2, Sure did! Quickly coming back now that I'm 24 weeks along
8. Drink water as my only beverage for 1 week
9. Run in 4 5ks I have ran three so far with another planned for May 2013
10. Run a 10k
11. Run a half marathon
12. Participate in a trail run
13. Take a yoga class
14. Write a great review and send letter and flowers for positive customer service experience  I have wanted to do this sooo many times! Which is why I have it on my list of things to do- because I don't do it often enough when it's needed.

A few of these in this section I haven't attempted, but still plenty of time! Looking forward to the 100% tip and anonymous favor.

Happy December

It's December! Yeah. It has been a very long time since I blogged. I've spent the better part of today reading lots of blogs on my google reader and then decided to write a post of my own.

When I say it's been a long time I'm not exaggerating a two week hiatus. We're talking months, like almost 7 of them. Oh, well. My blog, my diary. So here I am again because I love this time of year. I tend to blog a lot around this time. I have lots to document for myself and I thought I would start with some exciting news!

I think everyone already knows this, but if you still read this blog and I haven't told you already...

Here #2! I've had so much fun reading pregnancy updates all over the web and wanted to share.

Little C's adorable big brother shirt found here
and, the even bigger news...
We're going Team Green!
Looking forward to being completely surprised by the gender come March!
